This Still Hurts!
They say to write from the heart because it’s easier that way, whether heartbroken or happy always write from the heart. God only knows I’ve been trying to do that since March 31st. It’s been a struggle to find the words in-between battling tears, heart palpitations, and fatigue. This feels so personal.
Mourning a person you’ve never met seems odd to some, but in this case, it was normal, we grieved and continue to grieve together. Nipsey Hussle was more than just a Rapper he was an adoring father, life partner, loving son, brother, friend, hero, businessman, intellect and all around leader- WOW even referring to him in the past tense is rough. People like myself gravitated towards Hussle because he was a constant source of motivation. Outside of music he was building a legacy that promoted, generational wealth, black enterprise, community uplifting, self-love and love for your people.
There’s a lot to say, but I’ll keep it simple- I want to say thank you!
Thank You, Nip for the book recommendations, “The Way of The Superior Man” and “The Spook Who Sat by The Door” are real gems, “Soul on Ice” is next.
Thank You, for always promoting Assets over Liabilities, that shit is forever engraved in my memory.
Thank You, for buying back the block. They renamed the intersection of Slauson and Crenshaw after you. Neighborhood Nip lives on.
Thank You, for never putting the medicine in the candy.
Thank You, for promoting healthy Black Love. Lauren called you her sanctuary, that hit my spirit.
Thank You, for your music. Victory Lap is a classic and I can go on forever about mixtape Nip- Only the Real Know!
Thank You, for the Instagram like. I don’t know if you actually read my review of Victory Lap, but the Hussle approval meant, and still means the world to me- I’m getting that framed.
Thank You, for staying 10 toes down! They don’t make them quite like you.
Thank You, for sharing your spirit and energy with us. We all saw the God in you.
Thank You, for embodying the best of Hip-Hop.
Thank You, for inspiring.
We still can’t believe you’re gone, it all seems so surreal, you didn’t deserve to leave us like that, and although you’re not here in the physical we continue to feel your presence. Your legacy lives on.
The Marathon Continues, we got you!
