Nicki Minaj Comes Out of Hiding and Debuts Two New Records.

It’s been 4 years since the release of Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint(2014) and even without new music the Rapstress maintained her sense of relevance in the industry. Moments such as, being featured on several hot records over the years, her spat with fellow MC Remy Ma last summer and having two high profile relationships with Rappers Meek Mill and Nas all helped to keep her current. Meanwhile, the only thing on everyone else’s mind was, “where’s the music Nicki?”. In recent months Nicki has switched up her routine and managed to keep a very low profile. Actually, She went complete stealth mode and vanished from all social media, resurfacing every so often. This drastic change in behavior could only mean one thing….she’s working on new music!
Today, April 12th Nicki Minaj debuted two new tracks on Zane Lowe Beats 1 radio show and boy did her fans go nuts! “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” hit all music streaming sites and had social media and the entire music industry in a frenzy, #NickiDay was even trending. So what’s Taqi’s Take on her new music? Welp I broke it down into likes and dislikes.
Barbie Tingz:
Likes: The Beat is hard! Throughout the record, I felt throwback “itty Bitty Piggy” vibes.
Dislikes: I’m tired of hearing the same lack luster bars from Nicki. You know the typical, “All these b*****s is my sons” ish. “Barbie Tingz” makes plenty of innuendos towards female MC’s mimicking her likeness, “All they do is copy looks, steal music too, want to see what bitches do when they lose the blue-print.” she keeps the same energy in the third verse saying “When it come to stealin’ flows, these birds is fluent But they stutter when asked bout the queen’s influence when it’s clear they bite me, I’m flattered they like me”.  Nicki is far too seasoned and accomplished in the game to be sticking to the same script. I would love for her to flirt with new concepts. Especially, since she’s the main one accused of recycling Lil Kim’s iconic looks. Overall, I mean no malice, but Nicki could’ve kept this record. You can’t go into hiding forever and do a major rollout and the content doesn’t feel fresh. I’m sick of the stale bars Nicki….SICK!!!!!
Likes: Loved the fact that she used Chun-Li from Street Fighter as a point of reference. Street Fighter is defiantly a legendary game. If you are familiar with the story of Chun-Li you know that her main objective was seeking revenge for her father’s murder. Knowing that background gave me the feeling that Nicki was coming with a vengeance on this record. I also loved the many Scarface like moments “Oh, I get it, they painting me to be the bad guy”. This record has me excited for a new album. It’s a solid warm up.
Dislikes: I don’t have any!
